Title: First Times for [livejournal.com profile] word_vomity
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Rating: PG-13
Words: 535
Summary: A few weeks after the attacks, Kara and Lee finally get around to talking about that night, and Zak.

It’s a quiet kind of evening, just drinking games around a table in the rec room, when it starts. Kat gets Hot Dog to tell the story of his first kiss; then Boomer gets Crashdown going about his first frak. By the time they get around the table to Lee they’ve run out of obvious sexual firsts, and after a moment someone demands, “first speeding ticket.”

Lee’s stomach drops. He swallows the last of his beer as the others whoop, expecting a story. “I’d had a lot to drink,” he starts. “I’d met my brother’s girlfriend for the first time and knew within a minute of meeting her that I was jealous he’d met her first.” Some of the others laugh, or cat call, or smirk. Boomer looks at him warily, and Lee wonders how much she knows. He doesn’t turn to see Kara’s reaction. “I was a dozen kinds of frakked up, and nearly crashed the car completely taking a turn too fast. Anyway, a cop pulled me over, then let me go when he saw I was Fleet. At least I didn’t smell too much like wine or he’d have hauled me in.”

The others nod and toast in approval of his story, and Lee finally glances to the side. Kara is staring at him like he’s a stranger, like she has no idea what just happened. He taps his glass against hers. She jerks back to herself, downs her shot.

“Starbuck, your turn!” Kat sings out. “What was the first time...okay, the first time you cheated?”

Lee waits for Kara to go berserk on the kid, but she just shakes her head.

“I never frakked around on anyone I loved,” she says firmly. “There was one time--there was one time I really wanted to, but it didn’t happen.”

The game goes on, but she doesn’t turn to look at him again. When the others eventually leave, Lee is still watching Kara’s profile, the tension in her hands around her glass.

“You wanted to?” he finally whispers.

Her head bobs up. “You were jealous?”

The air between them crackles with tension, and then Lee slowly shifts his chair, easing toward her, reaching out to lay a hand on the side of her face. “Completely,” he says, and watches her flush.

Kara nods. “So badly.”

He seals their words with a searing kiss, and she leans into it, kissing him back until they’re both forced to separate for air. Lee is reaching to pull her into his lap when Kara stands, shaking her head.

“What’s wrong?” Lee pants.

Kara wraps her arms around herself and shrugs. “I told you what I did,” she says.

He remembers.

“I’m the one you should blame. Not your dad, Lee. Me.”

Lee looks up at her, eyes dark. “You would never have hurt him on purpose.”

She shakes her head. “If he hadn’t woken up, we both would have.”

They stare at each other in silence, feeling the truth of it. Lee reaches out, takes her hand in his, the same as the night they met. He squeezes and Kara smiles ever so slightly, squeezes back.

“Good night,” she murmurs, and leaves him there with his thoughts.

Title: I just want you to know who I am for [livejournal.com profile] kl_shipper1 (for the prompt “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls)
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Rating: PG-13
Words: 379
Summary: Kara wonders if anyone really knows her; Lee assures her someone does.

Usually when a pilot gets blown out of the sky, it happens in an instant, even if it seems to take forever. When Stepchild dies, though, it’s nothing like that.

They blast the last of the Raiders just as they catch sight of him, ejected from his Viper and drifting rapidly toward the gravity well of the black hole below, already out of reach of the SAR birds. The pilots fall silent in their ships as his words spill out of their radios. Not like this! he begs. I was just a kid - I grew up on Picon and I had an imaginary friend named Wilbur and once my brother made me set off a firework next to the neighbor’s dog-- His words continue until suddenly, with a gasp, they stop forever.

Everyone is somber as they climb out of their ships. No one rushes to hold an auction; they know too much about his parents right now to feel right pawing through Stepchild’s things.

Lee finds Kara drinking alone on the catwalk an hour later, and sinks down beside her as she hands him the bottle.

“Do you think we really know each other?” she asks, her voice starting to slur.

Lee looks at her sharply. “You and me?”

Kara shrugs. “Any of us. I never...I never even knew he had a brother.”

Lee takes a long swallow. “Me neither.” It burns in his throat. He watches as Kara’s face clenches for a moment in grief. Without thinking he reaches out, takes her hand in his, demands her eyes. “But I know you.”

Kara tugs her hand free, reaches past him for the bottle. “Maybe.”

He holds it out of reach. “You’d fight to the death to protect this fleet, or anyone you love. You’re an artist even if you don’t let people know it. And...” He pauses, meets her eyes. “And you’re most afraid of being forgotten.” For a long moment they stare at each other in silence, then Kara leans forward, presses a chaste kiss to his lips.

“Thank you,” she whispers.

Her hair has fallen across her face, and he tucks it back behind her ear. “Don’t worry,” he says, and passes her the bottle. “I could never forget."
